    Why do Scouts wear uniforms?

The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program. It identifies the boys and adult leaders with Cub Scouts and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and the Boy Scouts of America. Most boys enjoy wearing their Cub Scout uniform. They should wear it to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities.

Where can I buy a uniform?

You can purchase your uniform from Ford's in Hamilton, the Council (761-6000), or the BSA online store. Since only purchases from the Council or the BSA online store (be sure to enter Montana as your council!) benefit Montana scouting, we encourage you to buy your uniform through them.

Can I get a used uniform?

The BSA prefers the term 'experienced' and, yes, it is possible to get your uniform this way! Talk with your den leader and we will do our best to find a uniform that will work for your son.

What do I need for the uniform?

Shirt: Tigers, Wolves, and Bears need the navy blue shirt. Webelos may wear either the Cub Scout blue or Boy Scout khaki shirt. Many of us buy short sleeves and put a long sleeved shirt under it when it is cold.

Neckerchief: Boys need the neckerchief for their rank: Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos.

Slide: Boys may wear the Cub Scout slide, the slide for their rank (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos), or wear a homemade slide.

Hat: Boys need the hat for their rank: Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos.

Patches: You need den and pack (1 and 5) patches, plus the Montana council shoulder patch and the World Scout Crest Emblem. Other patches will be provided by the pack as your son earns them.

Optional items: Pants/shorts (blue with the blue shirt or olive with the khaki shirt), belt (Cub blue can be worn with either uniform and fits Sports and Academics belt loops), socks.

Red Brag Vest: Starting at the Wolf level, boys will want a red brag vest. Talk with your den leader about making or buying these, as the ones sold by the BSA don't hold up well to washing. Also remember that you are NOT going to want to move all of the patches and segments to a new vest, so try to get it big enough to last throughout your son's Cub Scout career!
